Stiefel Physiogel cream and lotion have been loved by our family including my baby niece and nephew since 2011, and also by my man with eczema skin since we first met in Australia. The products used to be for both face and body, then they recently changed the formula and separated the focus to face and body individually. Although they aren’t readily available in the states, they have been very popular and easy to get in Asia. They are known to be very hydrating and hypoallergenic that even the dermatologist that my family has been seeing since my primary school has recommended it for eczema for my mother, man, baby nephew.
Scent
The cream and lotion are fragrance free, but that doesn’t mean that they smell bad. Their scent is very neutral, so you won’t have to worry about it irritating even your eyes. My nephew and niece have been using them since their infancy, and their skin has been fine. My man has a very bad eczema condition that his skin around his hands and body is very fragile, but the cream has been working great so far.

Consistency
Physiogel facial cream has a more generic cream texture, but it feels dense on the skin. The lotion feels more of light cream-like than like an emulsion, which isn’t surprising as it also contains nourishing ingredients like coconut oil and shea butter.
Facial Cream (Left) & Lotion (Right)
Although they both are emollient, they go on skin very smooth and spread very well. The penetration speed is also fast, which feels quite luxurious, but for a fraction of the price of high-end moisturisers.

The finish of them both isn’t too oily, but feels very nourishing and hydrating. A small amount goes a long way and provides deep hydration, so I suggest you build it up as you go. Dehydrated combination to normal skin will feel better with the lotion and the cream will work great with dry to sensitive skin.
Benefits & Technology
Physiogel® moisturising creams and lotions contain Physiogel BioMimic Technology™, a science that works to soothe, help repair and restore the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
The lipids found in Physiogel BioMimic Technology protect skin cells, sealing in moisture. The skin cells, surrounded by the lipids, form a protective barrier, not only against water loss from the inside, but also from the entry of allergens from the outside. In this way, moisturising creams and lotions containing Physiogel BioMimic Technology work naturally with your skin and are clinically proven to strengthen and repair the skin’s moisture barrier, to keep essential moisture in and damaging irritants out.

Effectiveness
They recently changed the formula which now feel more deeply hydrating and longer lasting. The most important part is that they work brilliant on eczema prone fragile sensitive skin. The hydration level and longevity is almost equivalent to the far more expensive La Mer moisturisers, and the perk is that Physiogel ones are more gentle too. I’ve even been using them around my eye area, and both old and renewed versions haven’t irritated the area once. The same goes for my little nephew and niece and also my man’s very thin fragile skin on his hands and body. My family has been actively using them as S.O.S products for different occasions including after-sun, after-ski and also during pregnancy and nursing.
My skin hasn’t had any major sensitivity overall, so I’ve been mainly using them over winter when my skin gets most dehydrated from the heater and cold dry air. On top of that, I like to play around with different skincare products generally when I use them, so I’ve been using Physiogel cream slightly differently to how my family and my man have been using them.
How I Use Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy Facial Cream
- Hydrating base for glowing make-up
- Tinted moisturiser by mixing it with a non-mattifying foundation (the hydration level and glow that you get is similar to Chanel CC Cream (full review)
- Great as a protective hand cream for dry hands
- Great base for mixing with face oil
- S.O.S hydrating mask after long sun exposure to prevent dryness (Put the cream on my face generously, then wipe off the excess after 20-30 minutes)
- Fool-proof hydrating shield after using a mask.
It’s true that healthy skin will potentially delay skin aging and combat early signs of wrinkles by preventing moisture loss and strengthening the skin barrier. Meaning, if you have a pretty good skin without any specific concern, you could just start using skin barrier and hydration focused products such as Atopalm (full review) and Physiogel along with a reliable sunscreen for a long steady race, which will also save your money as it costs you less if you start earlier than later.
I really love the fact that the Physiogel moisturisers work wonders on weakened skin barriers. I would definitely recommend those to anyone at any age who needs fool-proof hydration and those with dry/sensitive/eczema prone skin that need protection from environmental aggressors such as pollution and harsh weather conditions to prevent further irritation and dryness.
