If you have been reading my blog for any length of time you’ll know that I think hydration is really important in a skincare routine. As we age our skin becomes drier as it can’t replenish the oils as it used to, combine that with the degradation of collagen and we get saggy wrinkled skin. That’s where Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Intense (30ml – £55) it contains hyaluronic acid, an absolute wonder ingredient that helps to plump and smooth out the skin.
Medik8 describes Hydr8 B5 Intense as:
helping to kickstart the natural production of hyaluronic acid in the skin. Hydr8 B5 Intense blocks its breakdown and works in conjunction with hyaluronic acid to deliver immediate and long-term hydration for all-day moisture. The lightweight serum is intensified with Natural Moisturising Factors (NMF), which make up the skin’s integral hydration system; grabbing onto moisture for supple and nourished skin. Hydr8 B5 Intense gives your skin the power to withstand dehydrating changes in temperature and humidity, leaving the complexion showered in moisture.

When I first used it I was really sceptical, I even put up first impressions on my Instagram saying I wasn’t impressed as it was rather expensive for what it did but now having tried it for quite some time I’m actually pretty impressed at how well its formulated. I really like using this with retinoids because it helps to stave off the dry peeling that can often happen with a high strength retinoid like Adapalene.

A few key ingredients in this formula are Biosaccharide gum which works in conjunction with hyaluronic acid to deliver immediate and long-term hydration. Purple-hued superfood Saskatoon berry helps to fight the enzymes that break down hyaluronic acid within the skin, preserving its moisture-boosting power. Multiweight Hyaluronic Acid which has a unique ability to attract and retain more than 1,000 times its own weight in water, hyaluronic acid can draw moisture from the surrounding atmosphere into the skin, leaving the complexion both nourished and supple. Glyceryl Glucoside which helps to stimulate the aquaporin channels in the skin that act as hydration tunnels through which water and glycerin can circulate for the correct water balance throughout the skin layers.
Overall I feel like a good hyaluronic acid serum is key in a skincare routine as its one of the very few products that are going to give you instant results in terms of plumping and smoothing out the skin. In my opinion, Medik8 Hydr8 is a really well thought out product and in comparison to the price of other high-quality hyaluronic acid serums like Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Hydration Booster is £69 for 30ml, NIOD MMHC which is £38 for 30ml and Pestle and Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum is £39 for 30ml.
